Avoid These Maintenance Mistakes That Could Ruin Your Remodeled Kitchen

You’ve spent loads of time and money to get your kitchen just the way you want it. There’s more square footage, lots of storage, significant counter space, bright and welcoming natural and artificial light. But all this brand-new stuff needs maintenance to keep your remodeled kitchen from quickly falling into disrepair. Here are some maintenance mistakes to avoid.

Not Regularly Cleaning Your Kitchen

Your immaculate remodeled kitchen won’t stay that way by itself. A dirty kitchen is not a place you or your guests want to visit, much less dine in. Not only this, but dirty appliances don’t work as efficiently as they could or last as long as clean ones. A kitchen floor that’s not at least broom-swept every evening is an invitation to vermin. It might even be dangerous to people if wet or greasy spots aren’t removed.

Neglecting the Kitchen Sink

Your new kitchen sink is now made of the material you’ve always wanted, be it porcelain enamel or gleaming stainless steel. But the sink might not be as clean as it looks. Since you use your sink not only to clean dirty dishes but also to prepare food, it can be a hiding place for bacteria and other germs. Make sure to disinfect the sink at least once a week. Though some people use bleach for this job, bleach can be tricky because it could damage some materials. A gentler way to sanitize your sink is with hydrogen peroxide.

Letting the Oven Clean Itself All the Time

A new oven may look so spotless that you hesitate to use it. When you do, and the inevitable spills happen, you might be tempted to let it self-clean. While this is fine once in a while, you’ll still need to thoroughly clean it yourself. Remember, a clean appliance works more efficiently and lasts longer than one that’s grungy.

Using the Wrong Cleansers on Your Countertops

Nothing will destroy brand-new countertops faster than the wrong cleanser. For example, most stone countertops need to be sealed, and using harsh cleansers such as bleach can damage them.

Ignoring Leaks

A leak in a newly renovated kitchen is something you must correct as soon as possible. Unaddressed leaks can cause an astonishing amount of damage.
